Slow Fashion September
Our Workshops:
Repair & Revive
No prior sewing experience is required for this workshop.
Learn simple stitching, patching, visible mending, hemming and repairing techniques. We are focusing on extending the life of garments through practical and achievable techniques.
You’re encouraged to bring along garments in need of repair.
Please note: if you have used a machine before, they will be available for your use. We will NOT be teaching you to sew on a machine in this workshop, however there are plenty of effective ways you can repair by using a needle and thread.
Upcycle & Reimagine
Simple sewing machine skills are required to get the most from this workshop.
This workshop focuses on design-led thinking, encouraging up cycling, reconstruction and reimagining your garments or thrifted finds. Think halving a dress into a matching set, or reconstructing a mens business shirt into a cute blouse.
Bring along your chosen garments to explore creative techniques to transform them. You will explore new, functional and expressive techniques to extend the life and functionality of your pieces.
Please note: depending on the alterations required for your garment, you may need to complete the project at home or in one of our Open Studio sessions.

What is Slow Fashion September?
Slow Fashion September is a month-long regional event led by Hamilton City Council, Waikato District Council and Waipā District Council to promote slow fashion, circular thinking and waste minimisation. The campaign encourages residents to wear, repair, reuse, remake and recycle clothing and textiles through a coordinated calendar of local events, activities and workshops.
Slow Fashion September has something for everyone, whether you are just getting started or already committed to slow fashion. All events are funded through the Government’s Waste Disposal Levy, which helps council run projects that encourage reducing waste.
